Dr. John T.C. Fung of the Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine, Dr. Siu Ling Chan from the Faculty of Medicine, Dr. Vichy W.C. Ho from the Faculty of Arts, Mr. Chun Kit Chan from the Faculty of Medicine, and Dr. Alice H.Y. Yau from the Faculty of Arts have been awarded the University's 2023 Teaching Innovation Award (Team) for their outstanding work on an innovative project. The project, titled "A Cross-Disciplinary Transmutable Application of Interactive, Immersive 360 Virtual Reality Videos on a Learning Management System (LMS) Combined with Facilitated Structured 3D Debriefing – an Innovative Experiential Learning Pedagogy in Enhancing Student Learning Engagement," has been recognized for its exceptional contribution to enhancing student learning engagement.
This project is a pioneering effort that combines interactive, immersive 360 virtual reality videos with a learning management system (LMS) and facilitated structured 3D debriefing, creating an innovative experiential learning pedagogy that has transformed the way students learn. The team's approach, which incorporates the 3D Model of Debriefing (Defusing, Discovering, and Deepening), has led to a significant improvement in student engagement and learning outcomes. This model, based on adult learning theory, the Kolb Experiential Learning Cycle, and the Learning Outcomes Model, is particularly effective in enhancing learning after real or simulated events in healthcare. It involves defusing the situation, discovering the root causes of the experience, and deepening the learning through the application or synthesis of new knowledge into clinical practice. The team's work has been widely recognized as a groundbreaking contribution to the field of education.
Once again, our heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Fung, Dr. Chan, Dr. Ho, Mr. Chan, and Dr. Yau for this prestigious award and we look forward to your future pedagogical endeavors.
