In addition, we were joined by 6 internship students from TALIC. Here’s what they have to say:
Going to the seminar as a secondary school student was definitely a valuable and eye-opening experience. It was an amazing opportunity for us to sit and watch proposals, new initiatives, and teaching advancement being presented by members of the medical faculty. It was amazing to see the VR technology, Anatomage, research from nursing students, and many of the other EdTech introductions, and it showed me truly how advanced teaching and learning is at HKUMed. I was also interested in KASES, and how AI could benefit clinical learning, and it gave me new resolve and motivation to study to be a doctor in the future!

The seminar was a great learning opportunity for me as a secondary student. The talks and proposals from the professors and students allowed me to understand how initiatives rise and how they are proposed. The EdTech in Paediatric Cardiology and the KASES made me realise that AI will play a key role in our future. Not only that but through AI so much more can be learnt and done.
-Joy Kaur, F4
This seminar was an amazing experience for me. It brought to light many ideas that usually wouldn’t cross my mind. For example, I never really thought about how AI literate I am, but after the seminar, it made me realise how people should be more aware of Generative AI literacy. This was a great opportunity for a secondary school student like me to broaden my horizons and see all these interesting proposals.

On the 9th of July, I was lucky enough to be able to attend the EdTech & SIMHSE seminar at HKUMed. It was an amazing opportunity and a great experience, I got to meet many different professors and doctors. There were various presentations, and I learnt a lot of how AI and technology is integrated in the medical field. There was a SIMHSE roundtable discussion between the attendees and presenters, as well a lot of audience engagement which made the experience interesting (plus the food was really yummy). Overall, this was an amazing experience that inspired me a lot.

HKUMed has many interdisciplinary collaborations in order to help students learn more. This demonstrates a strong initiative of staff at HKUMed to want to enhance medical student learning. The interactive pharmacokinetics course provides adaptive practice and feedback, while the KASES platform leverages advanced technologies to create a comprehensive database of patient case scenarios. The Technology-Enriched Learning Mezzanine or TechMezz, offers access to cutting-edge VR and AR tools, integrating these technologies across medical disciplines. The combination of all these different technologies that use AI will help to promote and inspire the future generation of medical students, it will definitely help to improve medical education at HKUMed.
-Sean Colloton, F4
It was so wonderful meeting the Associate and Assistant Dean, Professor Leung, and Professor Lau respectively, who encouraged and helped us feel at ease despite how obviously out of place we were among a group of medical and healthcare professionals. We were served with amazing snacks and after a cup of coffee, we moved on to the second part of the seminar. The roundtable discussion in particular stood out to me, with its interactive nature (with the help of mentimeter), pulling me into the discussion. It was engaging and enjoyable, while also evolving some ideas further and provided a lot of food for thought. Thank you HKUMed for the hospitality!
